Prof Yunus stresses transparency in finalising historic July Charter

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday directed that the process of making the July Charter must be transparent and clearly visible to all.

“This is a historic event. The desire of the mass uprising will be reflected through this. So, the entire process must be carried out transparently, it must be visible to the people in this way," he said.

Prof Yunus gave the directive during a meeting of the National Consensus Commission at the State Guest House Jamuna, where he presided as both Chief Adviser and Head of the Commission.

During the meeting, the Chief Adviser was briefed on the progress of the Commission’s activities. 

The Commission members informed Prof Yunus that maximum efforts are being made to finalise the July Charter as swiftly as possible.

The Chief Adviser extended his appreciation to the members of the Consensus Commission for their invaluable role and dedication.

“As every meeting of the Consensus Commission is being broadcast live on television, the people have the opportunity to witness these vital discussions. People at home and abroad have widely praised this initiative,” he told the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Vice-Chair of the National Consensus Commission Professor Ali Riaz, members Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Haque and Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah.

Professor Dr Ali Riaz informed the Chief Adviser that consensus has been reached on eight key issues following the second round of dialogue with political parties.

He also mentioned that discussions are ongoing to reach consensus on seven other issues.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser Siraj Uddin Miah and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haidar were also present.
