Primary education to undergo massive reforms leveraging Japanese expertise: State Minister Bobby Hajjaj

Staff Correspondent

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj on Wednesday announced that the government has undertaken comprehensive reform initiatives to transform the country's primary education system into a modern, skill-based, and child-friendly structure.

The State Minister sought bilateral cooperation from Japan, specifically focusing on curriculum development, teacher training, and administrative efficiency, using the East Asian nation's successful educational framework as a model. He shared these plans during a courtesy meeting with a high-level Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) delegation, led by its Bangladesh Chief Representative Takahashi Junko, at his secretariat office in Dhaka.

During the discussion, the State Minister highlighted that the government is actively working on formulating a new primary education curriculum.

Detailing academic and structural upgrades, Bobby Hajjaj revealed plans to establish phase-by-phase 'Math Labs' across primary schools nationwide to make mathematics education more interactive, engaging, and tech-driven, akin to traditional science laboratories.

The high-level meeting was also attended by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education's Additional Secretary (Dev) Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Joint Secretary (Planning) Md. Saiful Islam, Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Iqbal Hasan, and JICA Bangladesh Senior Representative Monikawa Yuko, among other senior officials.
