President stresses practical, job-oriented education

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday stressed the need to prioritise technology, engineering and technical education to equip young people with skills suited to employment opportunities at home and abroad.
He said this when a delegation led by Vice-Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) Prof. Abul Hasnat Md. Shamim paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban this noon.
During the meeting, the PUST vice-chancellor apprised the President of the university’s overall activities, President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam told BSS.
"The quality of education must be improved in line with the rapidly changing world, and students of the country must move forward," the President said.
"Our country must gradually get rid of the education system that creates unemployment and does not provide students for employment," he added.
During the meeting, the PUST vice-chancellor formally invited the President to attend the university’s upcoming convocation as Chancellor.
The President accepted the invitation and assured that he would attend the convocation.
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, as well as the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer, were present.
