Police, in a joint operation with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), arrested a man and his female companion involved in a shooting incident on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway in Bhanga upazila under Faridpur district, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Shahriar Mohammad Miyaji disclosed the details during a press briefing at the SP office conference hall in Faridpur on Thursday afternoon.

Police stated that on the night of August 17, the primary suspect, Hamidul Gazi, engaged in an altercation with locals over vehicle parking outside a restaurant near the Bhanga Roundabout while traveling from Dhaka to Gopalganj. During the dispute, Hamidul Gazi brandished a revolver, fired two blank shots to create panic, and fled the scene in a private car with his companion, Shimu Akter Tisha. Sub-Inspector Prashanta Kumar Mondal of Bhanga Police Station subsequently filed a case regarding the incident.

Based on information provided during interrogation, law enforcement officers seized the private car used during the crime from a garage in Jatrabari, Dhaka, and recovered a .22 caliber revolver hidden inside a abandoned toilet at Hamidul's ancestral home in Gowali Mandra village under Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj district.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Hamidul Gazi (42), son of Motaleb Gazi from Louhajang, Munshiganj, and Shimu Akter Tisha (26), a resident of Rupnagar, Dhaka, hailing from Bakerganj upazila in Barishal district. SP Shahriar Mohammad Miyaji confirmed that the suspects will be produced before the court for remand and judicial custody.
