Flight Lieutenant Tawkir Islam Sagar, who died in a fighter jet crash at Dhaka's Milestone College, has been laid to eternal rest in Rajshah on Tuesday afternoon.
He was buried at the Sapura graveyard in the city. At the time, senior officials from the police, army, and air force were present.
Earlier, at 4:30 PM, his funeral prayer was held at the District Muktijuddho Smriti Stadium. Divisional Commissioner Khondoker Azim Ahmed, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian, former City Mayor Mohammad Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, along with high-ranking officers of the army and air force, relatives, and general worshippers participated in the janazah.
Before the prayer, Flight Lieutenant Sagar’s biography was read aloud. Sagar’s father Tahurul Islam and maternal uncle Motiur Rahman gave brief speeches.
Tahurul Islam said, "I am that unfortunate father who carried the body of his own child." Breaking down in tears, he requested prayers for his son from everyone. He also sought prayers for all others, including children, who lost their lives in the Milestone School plane crash.
Earlier, at 2:55 PM, Sagar’s body was brought from Dhaka to Rajshahi Cantonment by air force helicopter. After completing formalities there, the body was taken at 3:20 PM to Tawkir’s rented house in Sector 3 of the city’s Upashahar area near the cantonment.
At that time, a large number of people gathered in front of the house. The body was kept for a while in the freezing ambulance in front of the house before being taken to the District Muktijuddho Smriti Stadium for the funeral prayer.
Sagar’s father, Tahurul Islam, is a businessman. His ancestral home is in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj. However, he has been living in Rajshahi city for the past 25 years. His only son, Sagar, was raised in Rajshahi. He studied up to class six at Rajshahi Laboratory School before enrolling in class seven at Pabna Cadet College. He passed SSC in 2014 and HSC in 2016 and then joined the air force.
Sagar got married about a year ago. His wife is a lecturer at a private university. On Monday, in the final flight phase, he took to the skies alone in the fighter aircraft.
That very day, the plane crashed over the premises of the capital’s Milestone School and College. Sagar died in the crash.
