Osmaninagar Upazila Press Club condemns attack on journalists in Sylhet

Osmaninagar (Sylhet) Correspondent

The Osmaninagar Upazila Press Club has strongly condemned a recent assault on two journalists while performing their professional duties at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, demanding immediate legal action against those involved.

In a press statement issued on Thursday afternoon signed by Office Secretary Jitu Ahmad, Press Club President Zainal Abedin and General Secretary Kabir Ahmad expressed deep concern over the incident and urged law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.

Senior Vice President Md. Koyes Miah, Vice President Md. Abu Hanifa, Joint General Secretary Jubel Ahmed, Treasurer Emdadur Rahman Khan, and other executive members of the press club also joined in condemning the assault.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 pm on Wednesday in front of the fifth-floor operation theatre of the hospital, where daily Shyamal Sylhet photojournalist Reza Rubel and SylhetView24.com staff reporter Nibendu Talukdar were gathering news and taking photographs regarding an alleged altercation between intern doctors and a patient's relatives.

Both journalists sustained severe head injuries during the attack by intern doctors and required emergency stitches.

Following the altercation, intern doctors initiated a work abstention without arranging medical assistance for the injured journalists, disrupting healthcare services at the hospital and causing widespread distress to patients and their families.
