The district administration has provided financial aid of Tk 4.4 million to the families of 22 martyrs who lost their lives in the student and public uprising in Narayanganj during July–August last year. On Wednesday (April 16) afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah formally handed over the checks to the families of the martyrs at the premises of the District Commissioner’s office. Each family received Tk 200,000 in government assistance.At the event, the family members demanded the construction of a memorial monument with nameplates featuring photos of each martyr, government support in handling legal cases, and preservation of the martyrs’ graves.Taking the matter seriously, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah assured that the administration would stand by all the families of the martyrs of the Narayanganj uprising. He said, "The students and public shed their blood with a purpose during the July–August uprising, and their movement has been successful. They have liberated the country from fascism. If we can build the nation they dreamed of, their sacrifice will be meaningful. Together, we will establish an egalitarian Bangladesh. The government and district administration are always with the families of the martyrs."The cheque distribution event was presided over by Hosne Ara Begum, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Narayanganj District Council. Among the attendees were Civil Surgeon Dr. Mushiur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Hossain, Narayanganj Metropolitan BNP Convener Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yousuf Khan Tipu, Central Working Committee Member of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Moin Uddin Ahmed, Mufti Masum Billah, President of the Narayanganj Metropolitan Branch of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and Tarikul Sujan, District President of Gonosonghoti Andolon, among leaders of various political and social organizations.
