A mysterious death of housewife Mahmuda Akter in Gazaria, Munshiganj, has been alleged to be a premeditated murder. In retaliation, a group of individuals reportedly attacked and vandalized the house of the opposing party, leading to significant losses estimated at over five lakh taka.

Eyewitness Amena Begum said at around 8:30 PM last Thursday, a group of 14-15 people arrived on 7-8 motorcycles at the yard of Mahmuda's husband Imran's house. We were terrified and locked ourselves inside. From inside, we heard the sound of destruction. The group vandalized the property for about half an hour and then left on their motorcycles. Later, we discovered that Imran's elder brother Wasim's house was also attacked, looted, and damaged."

Nasima Wasim, a Philippine national and the wife of Mahmuda's brother-in-law, claimed, "Under the leadership of Mahmuda’s younger brother Mamun, the attackers vandalized and looted our house on Thursday night. They broke all the furniture and forced open the drawers of wardrobes and showcases, taking 70,000 taka in cash, two tolas of gold jewelry, a laptop, and other valuable items. We suffered a financial loss of over five lakh taka."

Local auto-rickshaw driver Alauddin reported, "I saw a group of people leave on 7-8 motorcycles. Later, I heard they had vandalized Wasim's house."

Regarding the incident, OC of Gazaria Police Station, Md. Anwar Alam Azad, ssid "Mahmuda's mother, Marzina Begum, has filed a case at Gazaria Police Station regarding her daughter's death. One accused has been arrested in connection with the case. Additionally, a written complaint has been filed regarding the vandalism and looting of the opposing party's house. We are investigating the matter."

It is mentionable that on the morning of January 10, the body of Mahmuda Akter (38), a mother of three, was found hanging in her home in the Aralia village of Baluwakandi Union in Gazaria Upazila. Mahmuda's family alleged that she bore injury marks on her body, suggesting she was murdered deliberately. Mahmuda was the wife of Imran from Aralia village.
