Police arrested Ahsan Habib alias Ahsan, a former Union Parishad (UP) member and an inter-upazila dealer of Yaba and other foreign drugs, in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj.
He was sent to Sunamganj District Jail through the court on Friday.
Ahsan is the son of the late Nurul Islam (Master) of Shimultala village in the upazila.
Inspector (Investigation) of Tahirpur Police Station, Sushankar Paul.said, Sub-Inspector Hafizul Islam, In-Charge of the Badaghat Police Investigation Center, along with a team, arrested Ahsan on Thursday night. He was a wanted accused in a case under the Speedy Trial Act.
Ahsan, a former UP member and local leader affiliated with the youth wing of the ruling party in Uttar Bardal Union, is accused in multiple cases at Tahirpur Police Station. These include cases related to Yaba and foreign drugs, the Speedy Trial Act, violent clashes, and the looting of the houses and sands of several poor families along the Jadukata River in Ghagtiya village at gunpoint, along with a few drug users. In total, five cases are pending in Tahirpur Police Station and one more at Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station—six cases in total are under trial in court.
According to allegations, Ahsan, a Yaba and foreign drug dealer, has been running his illegal trade for over a decade in different areas of the upazila, including Shimultala, Barhal, Guttila, Manigaon, border villages like Maharam, Barektilla, Koruighora, Rajai, Chanpur, Rojniline, Borochhara, Badaghat’s Kamraband, Mollapara, Ghagtiya, and border village Laurgarh.
He allegedly carried out his business through agents under the network of professional Yaba trader Shahjahan alias Totla Shahjahan of Chandrapur village in Uttar Bardal Union.
