Mother attempts suicide due to torture by son, daughter-in-law in Pangsha

Unable to bear the torture of her son and daughter-in-law, an old woman named Sufia Begum (65) attempted suicide by jumping under a train.
The incident took place in the Kanukhali Railgate area of Maashpara in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari. She is undergoing treatment in Faridpur with serious injuries in the incident. The woman who attempted suicide is the wife of Karam Ali Mia of Kanukhali village in the upazila's Maaspara union.
It is learnt that on Wednesday (April 9) night, her son Rubel and daughter-in-law Nurjahan, along with some people, demanded one lakh taka and 50 percent of the land from her father and mother. During this, they showed various threats. In this, the wife of the elderly Karam Ali Mia, Shufia Begum, Unable to bear the insult of her son and daughter-in-law, attempted suicide by jumping under the train this morning (Thursday). She was seriously injured.
Later, she was rescued and admitted to the Pangsha Upazila Health Complex.
The injured person's eldest daughter, Jamena Begum, said, "We are six siblings. Among them, our only brother is Rubel. Since our elderly parents are alone at home,
the brother and brother's wife had been torturing them for land at various times. They had raised their hands on us several times before. Unable to bear all this, my mother jumped under the train today.
When we tried to inform the police station about this, they threatened to kill us too. However, we will file a case with the police station this time. We want proper justice.
The doctor on duty at the Pangsha Upazila Health Complex said that he suffered serious injuries to his head and eyes. His head was stitched. Later, he was sent to Faridpur as his physical condition deteriorated.
Inspector (Investigation) of Pangsha Model Police Station Md. Rashedul Islam said that no complaint has been received in this incident. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
