Media must be freed from fascism to retain benefits of mass upsurge : CMUJ

The leaders of Chittagong Metropolitan Journalist Union-CMUJ said that the country's media should be kept free from fascism and their accomplices to retain the benefits of the July Revolution. Besides, the leaders of this professional organization, who have been active in the anti-fascist movement for the past 18 years, also demanded legislation for the protection of journalists.
CMUJ leaders made this demand at a protest rally organized in front of the Chittagong Press Club on Thursday at 3 pm.
CMUJ General Secretary Saleh Noman and Dainik Dinkal Bureau Chief Hasan Mukul presided over the rally held under the chairmanship of organization president Shah Nawaz.
Mustafa Naeem, President of Chittagong Metropolitan Journalist Cooperative Association, Moin Uddin Quadri Shawkat, Interim Committee Convener of Chittagong Press Club, CMUJ members Shahidul Islam, Saifullah Chowdhury, Aminul Islam, CMUJ Organizing Secretary Saiful Islam Shilpi, Mahbub Mawla also spokeRipon, Mohammad Hossain, Abu Sufian, Kamrul Huda, Zobairul Islam, Omar Farooq, Bajlul Haque, Dainik Ajker staff reporter Abu Bakar and many other journalists.
In addition, Coordinator Ridwan Siddiqui, Co-ordinator, spoke among the coordinators of the student movement in the July upsurge.

Speakers in the rally said that some media and their owners and workers played the most shameless role in sustaining Awami fascism in the past days. Dissident journalists were selected from various media outlets and fired. Going to Ganobhaban, journalist leaders indulged in flattery instead of holding the rulers accountable. We demand immediate prosecution of those anti-national sycophants.
Stating that the date of submitting the investigation report of journalist couple Sagar-Rooney's murder case has been changed many times, the journalist leaders said that the investigation report of journalist Sagar and Rooney's murder was changed 111 times by the Awami League government. Although the current interim government's initiative to settle the case is visible, we want it to be settled more quickly. Let the culprits be brought under the law. Besides, 67 journalists were killed during the Awami League period. We strongly demand justice for every murder from this gathering.
Demanding to enact a law for the protection of journalists, they said that a law should be enacted immediately to protect the media workers. The state should ensure that genuine media workers do not face any untoward situation while performing their professional duties.
