Locals form human chain in Manikganj demanding rescue of kidnapped student Redwan
Manikganj Correspondent
Growing resentment and anger have mounted among the residents of Manikganj as law enforcement agencies have failed to trace and rescue 25-year-old BBA student Redwan Ansari nine days after his abduction.
A massive human chain was organized on Monday afternoon at the Baniajuri bus stand area along the Dhaka-Aricha highway under Ghior upazila by Redwan's relatives, classmates, and local residents. Emotional scenes unfolded as Redwan's mother and family members broke down in tears, appealing for the safe return of their child.
Addressing the gathering, local leaders and angry residents issued a stern warning to the administration, declaring that if the student is not rescued healthy and unharmed immediately, tougher agitational programs—including blocking the Dhaka-Aricha highway—will be announced.
The human chain drew widespread solidarity from key local figures, including Baniajuri Union Parishad Chairman S. R. Ansari Tiltu, President of Buro of Social Wazir Nur Islam Sattar, NPI University Trustee Board Member Engineer Dr. Md. Faruk Hossain, and the victim's uncle Abdul Hannan Ansari, along with teachers, students, and citizens from various professions. Speakers urged the relevant government authorities to intervene urgently and utilize maximum technological intelligence to locate the victim.
Redwan Ansari, the youngest son of the late Abdul Mannan Ansari from Tarail village in Baniajuri Union, Ghior Upazila, resided with his family in Dhaka's New Eskaton area. Alongside pursuing his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, he was employed at a private firm.
According to family sources, Redwan departed from his elder sister's residence in the Shafipur area under Kaliakair Police Station in Gazipur at around 6:30 pm on October 24, 2026 (Saturday), bound for Moghbazar in Dhaka. He last spoke with his elder brother, Shahriar Ansari, over the telephone at 9:30 pm that evening, after which his mobile phone was switched off. Relatives searched various hospitals and prospective locations throughout the night to no avail.
At 5:39 am on October 25, 2026, Shahriar received a phone call from an unknown number. The abductors informed the family of Redwan's captivity, briefly allowing him to speak to his relatives as proof before demanding a ransom of Tk 50,000 for his release. Desperate to ensure his safety, the family transferred a total of Tk 40,000 in several installments to various bKash and Nagad numbers provided by the criminals. However, after receiving the money, the kidnappers failed to release him and severed all communication.
Following the incident, the victim's cousin, Faysal Mahmud, filed a GD with the Kaliakair Police Station in Gazipur on October 25, 2026. A formal written complaint was subsequently lodged with the Company Commander of RAB-3 (Khilgaon Camp) requesting swift operational intervention. Law enforcement agencies have yet to report any breakthroughs in tracing the missing student.
