
Kotalipara Mahila AL President Rafeza Begum arrested

Police arrested Rafeza Begum (66), President of Kotalipara Upazila unit of Mahila Awami League and chairman of Amtali Union Parishad, Gopalganj.
She was arrested at around 1:00 pm on Thursday in front of the Amtali Union Parishad office. Rafeza Begum, a resident of Gachapara village, is the wife of late Aziz Sheikh and daughter of late Barek Hawlader of Gopalpur village.
Following her arrest, police produced her before the court, showing her detained under the Special Powers Act, and she was sent to jail custody.
According to police sources, on July 16, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations gathered at Wabdar Hat in Kotalipara upazila, where they blocked the road by felling trees, creating panic and disrupting public movement. In this connection, police filed a case under the Special Powers Act, naming 155 known individuals and 1,500 unidentified persons as accused.
Kotalipara Police Station OC Hafizur Rahman said, “Rafeza Begum was arrested on Thursday afternoon as one of the unnamed accused in the July 16 case. So far, we have arrested 53 accused in this case and sent them to jail. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.”
