Knowledge, dialogue, higher education keys to build safe Bangladesh: DU VC

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam has mentioned knowledge, dialogue and higher education as tools to build an inclusive and secure Bangladesh and said that researchers will have to work collectively to establish peace and harmony in the country through evidence-based research. He said this while addressing the closing session of the day-long international conference titled ' What Works in Countering Violent Extremism: Toward Human-Centric & Evidence-Based Policies ' at Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Tuesday.

The conference was organized by the International Security Policy Lab of the Department of World Religions and Culture under the HIT project of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh.
Dr. Eva Sadia Sa'd, member of the Heat Project, presided over the closing ceremony, while Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Shamsul Haque spoke as the special guest. Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh University Grants Commission Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. Professor Dr. Md. Abu Sayem, Chairman of the Department of World Religions and Culture, presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said, Violent extremism is not just a security problem, but an obstacle to peaceful coexistence. Peaceful coexistence sustains our social beliefs. We are a nation characterized by the power of youth, faith, culture and extraordinary diversity. We must protect these characteristics by preventing injustice, injustice and violence and creating opportunities for every citizen to live a dignified life. Social responses should be based on careful research rather than slogans.
