
IMF happy with Bangladesh's recent economic progress: Finance Adviser

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on Sunday said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in Bangladesh economy.“The IMF team has observed that the country’s economy is heading in the right direction,” he told reporters after a meeting with the visiting IMF delegation at the Secretariat.Regarding the next disbursements of the IMF loan, Dr Salehuddin said Bangladesh is hopeful of receiving the fourth and fifth tranches together.He noted that the IMF delegation emphasised the need for raising the tax-to-GDP ratio, recovering defaulted loans, and implementing reforms in the banking sector.“The team is currently assessing the country’s progress on the reforms outlined in the IMF loan programme,” he added.
