
Iftar Mahfil in memory of 3 martyred sisters in Srinagar

On April 3, 1971, three sisters—Asma, Najma, and Fatema—were martyred. In their memory, the family organized a prayer and iftar mahfil on Sunday at the Srinagar Press Club.
Dr. Mozaherul Haque, elder brother of the three sisters and a member of the Health Reform Commission as well as a former regional advisor of the World Health Organization (WHO), reminisced about them.
Among those present were Muhammad Jahangir Khan, General Secretary of the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance; educationist Dr. Saidur Rahman Apu; prominent businessman and social worker Md. Shahe Alam; Mosharraf Hossain, President of Srinagar Upazila Welfare Association; Abdul Latif Mia, Principal of Cizuya Kindergarten & High School; Arif Hossain, President of Srinagar Press Club; and Advocate Mehdi Hasan Shahbat, former Cultural & Drama Secretary of Munshiganj Lawyers' Association.
The event was moderated by writer and banker Mujib Rahman. Other attendees included journalists Md. Shahjahan Khan, Abdur Rakib, Ujjal Dutta, Mir Ratul, Nazmul Khan Sujan, Azizul Islam Roni, Nahid Hasan, Taizul Islam Ujjal, Md. Raju Ahmed, social worker Shahadat Hossain Akash, and many others.
It is mentioned that the ancestral home of Asma, Najma, and Fatema was in Jagannathpatti, Bhagyakul Union, Srinagar Upazila, Munshiganj. Their father, Nurul Haque, lived in Chattogram due to work. Their elder brother, Dr. Mozaherul Haque, was then the GS of Chattogram Medical College and Vice-President of the City Chhatra League. He left home to join the Liberation War. In retaliation, Pakistani soldiers attacked their house, brutally killing the three sisters. Other family members were injured in the attack.
