Helpless Majnu spends his days in pain in dilapidated house in Nesarabad

The two legs that he has worked hard to provide for his family for years now have terrible wounds. Unable to get regular treatment due to lack of money, Majnu Mia, a sixty-year-old from Balihari village in Sutiakati union of Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur, is now in extreme uncertainty. The wounds on his legs, which are affected by gangrene, are spreading day by day. Even though he is lying in bed in unbearable pain, his biggest worry is not his own life; the future of his family.
Majnu Mia spends his days lying on a bed on the veranda of a dilapidated house. Once, he used to work as a daily wage earner to support his wife, son, and daughter-in-law. The family used to run on the income he earned by working from dawn to dusk. But due to illness, he has not been able to work for a long time. As a result, his income has stopped. The family's small savings for medical treatment have also been exhausted.
Currently, Majnu cannot walk normally due to severe pain and wounds in his legs. It is difficult for him to even stand up on his own. He has to sit with the help of others. He spends his days and nights in physical pain and anxiety.
Majnu Mia says, "I am not afraid of dying, I am afraid of what my family will eat after I die. I have been working with this leg for many years, running my family. Now my leg is killing me. Due to lack of money, I cannot take proper medicine."
He also said, "I have been bedridden for several months. Please help me. Otherwise, I will not be able to get treatment. I have not received any government assistance in almost 10 years."
Seeing her husband in such a helpless condition, his wife Asma Akhtar burst into tears. She is also weak due to her age. Her son and daughter-in-law also do not have much income. As a result, on the one hand, the cost of Majnu's treatment, and on the other hand, the family's daily food needs have now become a big crisis.
The house of this helpless family is also a reflection of their plight. There is no permanent income in the dilapidated house. There is no sufficient savings or the ability to bear medical expenses. The person who once worked hard for the family, today has to spend his days depending on the help of others.
Majnu's voice is filled with more anxiety for his family than for himself. He says, "If I'm not here, how will my wife and children survive?"
This plea of a helpless person has now reached the humanitarian community. Majnu needs urgent financial and medical assistance for his treatment. In addition to government assistance, if wealthy individuals, humanitarian organizations, expatriates, and capable people in the society come forward, it may be possible to continue his treatment.
Local resident Kamal Hossain said, Majnu Mia has been living an inhumane life due to illness for a long time. His family's financial condition is very bad. The situation has worsened as he has not been able to get necessary treatment due to lack of money. If treatment is provided quickly, it may be possible to alleviate his suffering a little.
Sutiakati Union Parishad Chairman (in-charge) Md. Tota Khan said that he has come to know about Majnu Mia's illness. If the family is financially insolvent, the Union Parishad will try to arrange possible assistance as per government rules. He also urged the wealthy people of the society to come forward to help in his treatment.
Nesarabad Upazila Health Complex Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Asad said, Gangrene is the death of tissue or cells due to lack of blood flow to any part of the body. It is a very serious and life-threatening disease. Problems like leg ulcers or gangrene should not be neglected. It is important for such patients to seek medical advice quickly and undergo necessary tests.
Majnu Mia's family hopes that someone kind will stand by him and arrange for treatment. This man, who has been in pain for a long time, now wants a chance to live, not for himself, but for the future of his family.
