The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Md. Kawsar Miah, the primary accused in a rape case involving a disabled woman in Chunarughat Upazila of Habiganj.
He was apprehended during a raid conducted in Ahmadabad Union under Chunarughat Upazila on Saturday morning.
The arrestee, Kawsar Miah, is the son of Salim Miah of Alirajapur village in Ahmadabad Union.
According to RAB sources, on June 23, Kawsar Miah allegedly raped the 27-year-old disabled woman in the Alirajapur area when she went out at night. Following the incident, the victim initially approached a local Union Parishad member, but after failing to receive redress, she filed a formal complaint at Chunarughat Police Station. A case was subsequently registered against Kawsar Miah and his two sons.
The case statement noted that the suspect had been absconding since the filing of the case and had allegedly issued threats to the victim and her family through intermediaries.
RAB-9 stated that intelligence surveillance was maintained following the incident, leading to the suspect's arrest on Saturday. The battalion reaffirmed its strict stance against crimes involving women and children.
Kawsar Miah has been handed over to Chunarughat Police Station for further legal proceedings, confirmed OC Saiful Islam.
