The court has sent former sub-registrar of Kushtia, Subrata Kumar Singh, to jail in the case of forcibly grabbing property worth at least 10 crore taka of two sisters through forged signatures and fake documents.

On Wednesday (February 26) afternoon, Judge Tapan Roy of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Kushtia did not grant him bail and ordered him to be sent to jail. He was sent to Kushtia District Jail in the evening.

Subrata Kumar Singh (46) is currently working as the Sub-registrar of Dinajpur. He is the son of Durgapad Singh of Joypur village in Monirampur upazila of Jashore. He committed this corruption and irregularities while working in Kushtia. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) investigation has found the evidence of the allegations against him.

The accused in the case are Mesbahur Rahman (55), a former officer of the Monohardia Union Land Office in Kushtia Sadar Upazila. He is the son of the late Shah Uzir Uddin of Durbachara village in Kushtia Sadar Upazila, Shamsul Islam (30), son of Abdus Sattar of Lahini village in the same upazila, Shah Yusuf Hossain (32), son of Shah Khalilur Rahman of Durbachara village, Saddam Khan (31), son of Akhtar Khan of Lahini village, Akhtar Hossain (61), son of the late Samad Khar of Lahini village, Tanvir Hossain (23), son of Abdul Khalek of the same village, SM Ziaur Rahman (41), son of Hamidul Haque of Madhabpasha village in Narail district, his wife Sumana (30), former sub-registrar of the Kushtia Sadar Sub-Registry Office Subrata Kumar Singha, office assistant of the same office Rafiqul Islam Mukul, and peon Nurul Islam Khokon. The PBI investigation has found the evidence of the allegations against them.

The victims are Jamila Nahar Sheikh and Zubaida Nahar Sheikh, daughters of the late Niamat Ali Sheikh of Berbaradi village of Harinarayanpur union in Sadar upazila of Kushtia. Zubaida Nahar Sheikh is an Australian expatriate and Jamila Nahar Sheikh is a salaried employee. The plaintiff in the case is Zubaida Nahar Sheikh.

According to court sources, on the afternoon of March 10, 2022 and June 19 of the same year, the two sisters tried to embezzle 28 bighas of ancestral land and petrol pump land worth about ten crore taka at the Kushtia Sub-Registrar Office in collusion with officials and employees of the Land Office. The victims approached the court after being informed about their fraud.

On the orders of the court, Kushtia PBI started investigating the case. The snake came out to dig up the worm when it started investigating the case. The signatures and tips of the two victims were forged. SM Ziaur Rahman, a trusted employee for twenty-three years who was in charge of maintaining the property of the two sisters, and his first wife Sumana, were disguised as sellers and the signatures and tips of two maids were given in the presence of the fraud ring (by one person) at a house in Gulshan. The fraud ring completed the land registration. Then the members of the fraud ring and the document recipients sold the land, including the petrol pump, to others at several times higher prices and embezzled a huge amount of money.

During the investigation, the investigating officer, PBI officer Rabiul Alam, found the truth of the allegations against 11 people. After the investigation, he submitted the investigation report to the court. The accused tried to forcibly seize the property worth about Tk 10 crore of the two sisters through forged signatures and fake documents.

Court bench assistant Kamrul Islam, court police and concerned lawyers said that Sub-Registrar Subrata Kumar Singh was ordered by the High Court on January 26 to surrender to the Chief Judicial Court within 6 weeks. When he appeared in court on Wednesday, the judge did not grant him bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
