
Gopalganj Municipal Water Treatment Plant set to resume operation at DC Kamruzzaman's initiative

The water treatment plant of Gopalganj Municipality had been non-functional for a long time due to a sudden burning of the electricity transmission line, causing some disruptions in the supply of clean drinking water to the municipal residents.
Upon knowing about the issues , Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman took the initiative and provided guidance, leading to the restoration of the water treatment plant operated by the Gopalganj Municipality. The municipal authorities are hopeful that uninterrupted water supply from this treatment plant will soon be ensured.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman visited the water treatment plant run by Gopalganj Municipality and provided necessary instructions to the responsible municipal officers and staff to ensure a continuous water supply as per the needs of the residents on Friday.
During the visit, Gopalganj Municipal Administrator and Deputy Director of the Local Government Division, Bishwajit Kumar Pal, Executive Engineer of the Gopalganj Public Health Engineering Department, Md. Fayez Ahmed, Executive Engineer of Gopalganj Municipality, Md. Mehedi Hasan, Municipal Supervisor (Water Supply), Sourav Bose, Personal Assistant to the Municipal Administrator, Mahfuzur Rahman Lablu, along with other municipal officials and employees, were present.
After inspecting the water treatment plant, the Deputy Commissioner directly communicated with the Executive Engineer of the Gopalganj Public Health Engineering Department and later with the Chief Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department. His discussion focused on ensuring an uninterrupted water supply for Gopalganj residents and extending water supply lines to more areas, particularly in wards 01, 02, 03, 14, and 15 of the municipality.
Earlier, in 2001, a project worth approximately 48 crore BDT was proposed to the Local Government Division for the development of the Gopalganj municipal water treatment plant and supply lines. If approved and implemented, this project is expected to resolve many of Gopalganj's drinking water supply issues. To expedite the approval and execution of this project in the public interest, the Deputy Commissioner directly spoke with the Chief Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department.
The municipal authorities expressed their sincere gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for his tireless efforts in swiftly resolving Gopalganj Municipality’s water supply issues.
Previously, the matter was raised by Municipal Administrator and Deputy Director of the Local Government Division, Bishwajit Kumar Paul during the monthly meeting of the District Law and Order Committee.
