Former train hawker faces destitute life after disabling accident, family pleads for financial aid

Md. Mujibur Rahman Patwary, Gazipur

Md. Anwar Islam (40), a former train hawker, is currently living a miserable and destitute life after a devastating train accident in Dhaka a year ago left him severely disabled.

Having lost the functional capacity of one hand and both legs, Anwar's medical treatment has completely stalled due to an extreme lack of funds. The sole breadwinner's sudden disability has plunged his wife, two minor children, and elderly parents into a state of absolute despair, turning their daily survival into a constant battle against poverty.

Before the tragic incident, Anwar used to maintain his impoverished household by hawking peanuts, guavas, and drinking water on trains traveling from Dhaka to the northern districts of the country. A year ago, after bidding farewell to his family, Anwar went to the Tongi Railway Station to board a northern-bound train for his daily sales. As the train was passing the Mohakhali area in Dhaka, Anwar was moving between compartments when he accidentally tripped over some luggage left near a carriage door and plunged out of the speeding train. Onlookers rescued a heavily bleeding Anwar from the tracks and rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors confirmed that one of his arms and both legs were catastrophically fractured.

The tragic accident has shattered the family's stability, as Anwar was the eldest of three siblings and the only earning member supporting his eight-year-old son, four-year-old daughter, and aging parents. Although his sister, Roksana Akter, a Qawmi madrasa teacher, extended financial help during the initial months, she has now exhausted her resources and is unable to continue assistance. Anwar is currently admitted to the Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur to receive treatment for severe bone infections.

With tears in her eyes, Anwar's mother, Deluara Khatun, expressed her helplessness, stating that the family can no longer afford even basic food or crucial medicines. Fearing that her grandchildren will be left completely helpless if Anwar's condition deteriorates further, she made an emotional appeal to wealthy individuals, humanitarians, and philanthropists across society to stand by the impoverished family and provide financial aid for her son's treatment.

Well-wishers wishing to extend financial support can send assistance directly to the family's personal Bkash account at 01930086998.
