
Fine Imposed for illegal hill cutting in Bandarban

A mobile court has imposed a fine of Tk 15,000 on an individual named Nazim Uddin for illegally cutting hills, causing environmental damage.
Bandarban Environment Department said, a group of people was illegally cutting hills in the Thoaingya Para area of Bandarban Sadar Upazila.
Based on this information, on Thursday , a joint mobile court operation was conducted by the Upazila administration and the Environment Department in the Thoaingya Para area. For violating the Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (Amended in 2010) and causing environmental harm through illegal hill cutting, Nazim Uddin was proven guilty and fined 15,000 taka. Additionally, it is known that preparations are underway to file cases for hill cutting in other areas as well.
During the mobile court operation, Bandarban Sadar UNO and Executive Magistrate Marufa Sultana Khan Hirmoni, Assistant Director of Bandarban Environment Department Rezaul Karim, along with police administration personnel, were present.
Rezaul Karim, Assistant Director of Bandarban Environment Department, said that in addition to fining Nazim Uddin 15,000 taka for involvement in hill cutting, a preliminary warning has been issued.
