Father of July martyr Joy in Kuliarchar : 'I sacrificed my son for the country'

"I realized how heavy a child's coffin is on a father's shoulder the day I carried my son's body. I sacrificed my son for this country during the mass uprising, but what have I received in return from this state?"
Mizanur Rahman Nahid, father of July martyr Mahmudul Hasan Joy, expressed these heart-wrenching words with a heavy heart during a discussion meeting held at the Kuliarchar Upazila auditorium in Kishoreganj on August 5, marking "July Mass Uprising Day-2026."
Marking the occasion under the theme "Building the country with the spirit of July—Bangladesh first," the upazila administration organized a reception and discussion meeting for July martyr families and fighters.
Chaired by UNO Md. Yasin Khandaker, the morning event was attended by Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Adnan Akhtar, Kuliarchar Government Degree College Principal Md. Munabbir Hossain, Agriculture Officer Morjina Akter, OC Kazi Arif Uddin, Senior Fisheries Officer Sheikh Masud Rana, Social Services Officer Mahbuba Siddiki, Women Affairs Officer Mahmuda Sultana, Freedom Fighter Commander Salah Uddin Nannu, Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Adv. Shah Alam, Upazila Jubo Dal Convenor Azhar Uddin Liton, the mother of July martyr Ifti Abdullah, along with local freedom fighters, department heads, journalists, and members of civil society.
The program was conducted by Upazila Academic Supervisor Mohammad Mushfiqur Rahman. Earlier in the day, attendees visited and offered prayers at the graves of the July martyrs, concluding the event with the formal reception of martyr families and injured fighters.
