Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said that a long-term plan has been adopted to transform Dhaka University into a research-centric, innovation-driven and international-standard higher education institution. He said, "Our goal should be to make Dhaka University an important, influential and prestigious institution among the top 200 academic institutions in the world."

He made these remarks in the presidential address at the annual Senate session of Dhaka University held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on Monday.

The Vice Chancellor said that in its glorious journey of 105 years since its establishment, Dhaka University has played an important role not only as a center of knowledge but also as one of the main driving forces of the country's political, social and cultural development.

Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said, Dhaka University's position in the international arena is gradually strengthening. In the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2026, Dhaka University has advanced 600 steps compared to last year and has secured a place in the 401-600 band. At the same time, it has maintained its position among the world's top 600 universities for the third consecutive time in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and has secured the 132nd place among Asian universities in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026. Dhaka University has maintained its top position among universities in Bangladesh in both rankings.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted various aspects of the 20-year 'Dhaka University Academic Plan (2026-2046)' prepared in view of the 125th year of the university. He said, this plan has been formulated focusing on inclusive innovation, ethical leadership, research excellence, education modernization, entrepreneurship development, internationalization and enhancing administrative efficiency.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani spoke in the session. University Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury presented the revised budget of Tk 1039 cr 05 lakh 93 thousand for the 2025-2026 fiscal year and the proposed budget of Tk 1033 cr 21 lakh 83 thousand for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
