Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Patharghata intercepted two illegal artisanal trawling boats and detained 21 fishermen in the Bishkhali River near Barguna's Patharghata Upazila on Saturday afternoon.
Providing details on Saturday afternoon, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said, the targeted drive was executed around 5:00 pm on Friday near the Nilima Point area under Patharghata Police Station, based on actionable intelligence.
During a search of the two seized vessels, Coast Guard personnel recovered 17 banned set bag nets (Behundi nets), four wings, two derricks, and four trawl doors used for illegal bottom-trawling.
Lieutenant Commander Sujon confirmed that the detained fishermen, along with the impounded boats and trawling equipment, were handed over to Patharghata Police Station for legal proceedings and formal prosecution.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard will maintain rigorous patrols to safeguard national marine resources and enforce fishery conservation laws, the press release added.
