
Coast Guard seized illegal shrimp fry worth Tk 2.3 cr in Sonargaon
Coast Guard has seized illegal shrimp fry worth about Tk 2.3 cr from Sonargaon in Narayanganj.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque informed the matter in a press release on Monday afternoon.
The press release said that, based on secret information, on Monday, 22 2.3 at 8:00 am, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Composite Station Padma in the area adjacent to the Kanchpur Bridge toll plaza under Sonargaon Police Station in Narayanganj. During the operation, three suspicious trucks traveling from Cox’s Bazar to Satkhira were searched, and 40.6 million pieces of illegal shrimp fry worth about Tk 2.3 crore were seized.
Later, in the presence of the Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer of Narayanganj, the seized shrimp fry were released into the Buriganga River, and the truck drivers and helpers were released along with the trucks after signing a bond.
The press release further said that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect fishery resources.
