Coast Guard seized illegal polythene worth Tk 3.63cr in Armanitola

The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized approximately 24,200 kilograms of banned polythene during a special raid conducted in the Armanitola area near the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka.
The market value of the seized illegal polythene is estimated to be around BDT 3.63 crore, according to Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon.
Acting on a secret tip-off, a specialized team from Coast Guard Station Pagla carried out the overnight drive in Armanitola between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM on Saturday (August 22, 2026). During the search, the team raided an under-construction building in the area and recovered the vast cache of polythene bags stored inside.
However, no arrests could be made during the operation as the actual owner of the illegal stash was not found on site.
Legal proceedings regarding the seized polythene have been taken .
The Coast Guard's commitment to continuing such drives in the future to protect the environment and enforce the law, the press release added.
