Coast Guard rescues sick launch passenger in Chandpur after hotline alert

Chandpur Correspondent

The Bangladesh Coast Guard provided emergency medical assistance to a sick passenger aboard a passenger launch near the Chandpur estuary on Tuesday after receiving a call on its emergency service helpline, 16111.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard said this in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Coast Guard sources, the Dhaka-bound passenger vessel MV Karnafuli-10, which had departed from Bhola, was passing through the Chandpur estuary at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday when a passenger suddenly fell ill. Recognizing the medical emergency, the passenger's uncle placed a call to the Coast Guard hotline 16111 seeking urgent assistance.

Upon receiving the alert, a specialized medical team from Coast Guard Station Chandpur was dispatched immediately to the launch. The medical crew administered preliminary treatment and stabilized the individual on board. To facilitate advanced medical care, the patient was subsequently evacuated via a Coast Guard speed boat to the Chandpur Launch Terminal and transported to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka by a private ambulance arranged under Coast Guard supervision.

The Coast Guard remains committed to serving the public and will continue to respond swiftly to emergency situations along the country's waterways.
