Coast Guard detains 16, seized Illegal trolling boat, nets, marine fish in Banshkhali

The Coast Guard detained 16 fishermen and seized an illegal artisanal trolling boat, six trolling nets, and 4,053 kilograms of marine fish during an operation in Banshkhali, Chattogram.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, disclosed the details on Sunday afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by the Coast Guard Contingent Banshkhali at 3:00 AM on Sunday near the S. Alam Jetty area under Banshkhali Police Station. During the search of the intercepted artisanal trolling boat, authorities recovered the illegal nets, marine fish, and detained the 16 individuals.
In the presence of the Assistant Director of the Department of Marine Fisheries in Agrabad, the trolling equipment was removed from the boat, the illegal nets were destroyed, and the boat along with the fishermen was handed over to the owners upon signing a bond. Meanwhile, the confiscated marine fish were auctioned off for BDT 2,50,000, and the proceeds were deposited into the government treasury.
The Coast Guard affirmed that similar operations to protect marine resources will continue in the future.
