
Coast Guard detained armed robber in Hatiya, recovered local firearms

An armed robber was captured with weapons in Hatiya, Noakhali during a robbery attempt in cooperation of local residents in a swift operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Several homemade firearms were also recovered in the raid.
The information was confirmed in a press release on Thursday by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque.
According to him, at around 2:00 am on Thursday, a gang of robbers attacked the house of one Mosharraf Hossain in Natun Sukhchar village under Jahajmara Union of Hatiya upazila, which falls under the jurisdiction of Coast Guard Station Hatiya. Upon receiving the news, a prompt response team from the station, assisted by locals, rushed to the scene. One robber was arrested with three homemade firearms during the operation.
The arrested robber has been identified as Md Yusuf (40), a resident of Natun Sukhchar in Jahajmara Union, Hatiya upazila. Based on preliminary interrogation, an additional homemade firearm was recovered from a nearby house.
The apprehended robber and the seized illegal weapons were later handed over to Hatiya Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Coast Guard said, they maintain a 24-hour patrol to ensure law and order in coastal areas. They further confirmed that such operations will continue in the future.
