CHT secretary announces cold storages for hill tracts, market expansion in capital

Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Ministry Secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman has announced that the government will ensure all necessary facilities for marketing, exhibiting, and preserving chemical-free, delicious fruits produced in the hilly regions.
Following directives from the State Minister, a cold storage facility will be established in every upazila across the three hill districts to assist local farmers in preserving their yields.
The secretary made these remarks on Tuesday as the chief guest at the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the three-day "Hilly Fruit Fair-2026," held at the auditorium of the CHT Complex on Bailey Road in the capital.
The closing ceremony was presided over by CHT Affairs Ministry Additional Secretary Md. Monirul Islam. Other prominent speakers included CHT Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Kongkon Chakma, Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Agriculturist Kajal Talukdar, Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Shefalika Tripura, and Rangamati Hill District Council Chief Executive Officer Khondokar Rezaul Karim. The event was moderated by CHT Affairs Ministry Deputy Secretary Mongal Chandra Paul.
Secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman extended his heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making the event a success. He highlighted the spontaneous and encouraging participation of indigenous entrepreneurs from the three hill districts.
Representing the hill tract entrepreneurs, Binita Chakma, owner of Rangamati's "Jum Ghar," Chongreng Mro from Bandarban, and Kongkona Chakma from Khagrachhari shared their feedback, expressing immense satisfaction with the overall management and the exceptional sales opportunities provided by the platform.
Organized by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, the 3 -day exposition ran from June 27 to June 29 at the CHT Complex premises on Bailey Road, remaining open to the public daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Entrepreneurs from remote hilly terrains showcased a vibrant array of fresh, organic seasonal fruits across 30 stalls.
