Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Week begins in city

To celebrate the cultural ties between China and Bangladesh, the "Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Week" has commenced at the BRAC University Art Gallery in Dhaka. The event is part of the “Millennium Cultural Bonds: China-Bangladesh Cultural Exchange Month.”
The week-long programme was inaugurated on Sunday afternoon by Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice Chancellor of BRAC University.
Among the distinguished guests were Dr. Sue Vize, Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh; Md. Wares Hossain, Acting Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; Han Zhiqiang, a designated bearer of China's intangible cultural heritage; and Li Shaopeng, Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka.
Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening the historic relationship between China and Bangladesh. China currently holds the highest number of UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritage items, with a total of 44.
The opening ceremony featured performances of traditional Chinese instruments such as the guzheng and erhu, along with a martial arts demonstration. Guests also toured an exhibition showcasing Chinese handicrafts and cultural artifacts.
