Former Ward 2 councillor of Siddhirganj and local BNP leader Iqbal Hossain has been accused of forcefully capturing land and assaulting a landowner in the Raghunathpur area under Fatullah Model Police Station in Narayanganj district on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Following the incident, Kohinur Akhter Papiya, wife of victim Kashem Molla Sabuj, filed a formal written complaint against Iqbal Hossain at Fatullah Model Police Station. Fatullah Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Samsul Haq Sardar confirmed receipt of the complaint, stating that police have launched an investigation and will pursue legal action against the perpetrators.
According to Kashem Molla Sabuj, he purchased a four-decimal plot in Bhuigarh mouza in 2016, where he previously built a homestead containing eight rooms and three bathrooms. After demolishing the old structures to erect a new building, he enclosed the property with a tin fence. In November last year, 20 to 25 miscreants broke the boundary fence and installed a signboard under Moktar Hossain's name, directing Kashem to meet former councillor Iqbal, who subsequently claimed 3.75 decimals of the land through an alleged deed of agreement (bayna).
Kashem subsequently filed a lawsuit, prompting the court to order an on-site investigation by the local land office. On Wednesday morning, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Office official Milton Roy arrived at the disputed property to conduct a follow-up inquiry. Kashem alleged that Iqbal Hossain and 8 to 10 associates arrived during the official inquiry, removed the previous signboard, and erected a new sign claiming ownership of the 3.75-decimal plot under Iqbal's name via Nasir Ahammad.
Kashem further alleged that Iqbal and his followers brutally assaulted him and his son-in-law in the presence of the land official and local residents, snatching mobile phones from bystanders to prevent video recording. Kashem was subsequently rescued and transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Local residents reported that Iqbal Hossain has been implicated in multiple land-grabbing and extortion allegations across the Siddhirganj-Fatullah border area.
Demanding justice, Kashem Molla urged law enforcement and land administration authorities to verify all property documents and ensure fair legal proceedings. Efforts to reach Iqbal Hossain via telephone for comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer calls.
