ATM Azharul Islam, Member of Parliament for the Rangpur-2 (Badarganj-Taraganj) constituency and a central Naib-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami—called upon the government to respect the people and immediately reform the constitution based on consensus, as well as implement the public mandate arising from the referendum that reflects the aspirations of the mass uprising. 

A press conference was held on Friday afternoon at the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Rangpur metropolitan office to ensure the success of 19 September’s massive long-march of hundreds of thousands from Dhaka to Rangpur. 

This march, organized by an 11-party alliance including Jamaat-e-Islami, demands the implementation of a 9-point agenda: executing the referendum mandate; prosecuting the 'July genocide'; resolving crises regarding electricity, fuel, gas, and fertilizer; curbing the soaring prices of essential commodities; improving law and order; halting narrow partisan politicization; stopping corruption and extortion; immediately implementing the Teesta Master Plan; and repealing the Property Transfer Act.

Speaking at the event, he stated that public life has become unbearable across the country due to the government's shortsightedness and its refusal to cooperate with the opposition, resulting in severe shortages of fertilizer, gas, electricity, and fuel. 

MP ATM Azharul Islam asserted that Jamaat-e-Islami is neither a 'tame' nor an unruly opposition party. He affirmed that they would cooperate with all constructive and welfare-oriented government initiatives but would take a firm stand against any action or decision detrimental to the country, the nation, or Islamic tenets.

Making a fervent appeal to the government, ATM Azharul Islam MP said, "Let the ruling party and the opposition sit together and work based on consensus.

He announced that an 11-party long march, led by Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, would commence from Manik Mia Avenue on Saturday morning. He declared that if anyone attempts to obstruct this long march, it will proceed regardless of such obstacles, Insha'Allah.
