Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the BNP, founded by martyred President Ziaur Rahman, is working towards changing the destiny of the people of the country, establishing democracy and achieving economic prosperity.

The 19-point program he announced was a program for improving the destiny of the people, achieving economic prosperity and self-reliance. Necessary constitutional reforms are being taken to prevent the rise of any military dictatorship, autocratic power or fascism in the future.

He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by Sylhet District BNP on the occasion of BNP's 48th founding anniversary at Sylhet District Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday Commerce, Industry and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, MP was present as the keynote speaker.

The Home Minister said that martyred President Ziaur Rahman started the Liberation War by declaring the independence of Bangladesh and later saved the country from the chains of subjugation through the Sepoy-People's Revolution. By establishing BNP, he initiated multi-party democracy, independence of the judiciary and media, and productive politics. Through the movement against military dictatorship, Begum Khaleda Zia became the national leader and established parliamentary democracy in 1991. The BNP government has made important contributions in various fields including women's education and youth development.

He said, "Bangladesh has regained democracy through the movement and sacrifice of students and the public. Now, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, work is underway to establish a democratic state based on justice and equality, free from discrimination."
He further said that the ideology of BNP is to establish a Bangladesh with equality, justice and human dignity and to ensure the welfare of the people. In the light of the 'I Have a Plan' announced by the Prime Minister, poverty will be eradicated and social dignity will be established through the implementation of public welfare programs including family cards and farmer cards. At this time, he sought the cooperation of the countrymen.

The Commerce Minister said, at a time when the question of whether Bangladesh will survive as a state after independence was being asked, martyred President Ziaur Rahman established Bangladesh in a prestigious position in the world court in a short period of time by taking charge of the country.

Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury presided over the discussion meeting and moderated by General Secretary Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury. BNP Chairperson's Advisor MA Malik, MP, BNP Central Co-Organizing Secretary Miftah Siddiqui, National Executive Committee Member Abul Kaher Chowdhury Shamim, Central BNP Leader Muktijoddha Abdur Razzak and Advocate Hadiya Chowdhury Munni, along with leaders of Sylhet District BNP and its affiliates, were present.
