Aunt, niece drown in Dimla

A tragic incident occurred in Dimla of Nilphamari district on Monday morning as an 11-year-old girl and her four-year-old niece drowned in a canal.
The deceased were identified as Pakhi Akter, 11, daughter of Abul Hossain of South Kankra village, and Sinha Akter, 4, daughter of Md. Selim Mia of Sonamonir Danga (Nijpara) area under Nautaara Union.
The incident took place at around 10:00 am on Monday in a canal approximately 300 yards east of South Kankra village under Nautaara Union of Dimla Upazila.
According to local residents and police, Pakhi Akter went to the canal to bathe with her four-year-old niece, Sinha. At one point, Sinha accidentally fell into deep water. Pakhi attempted to rescue her but also drowned in the process.
Hearing their cries, a passerby named Palash Mia noticed the incident and called for help. Local residents and family members rushed to the spot and rescued both girls from the canal.
They were subsequently taken to Dimla Upazila Health Complex by an auto-rickshaw, where the on-duty doctor declared both of them dead.
After receiving the information, Sub-Inspector Enamul Haque of Dimla Police Station, along with a police team, visited the scene and prepared the inquest reports.
Later, the bodies were handed over to their respective families for burial.
