Attempt to grab Govt land in Dohar Municipality
Mahbubur Rahman Tipu, Dohar (Dhaka)
An attempt has been made to occupy 9 shatak (approximately 0.09 acres) of government-owned homestead land adjacent to the inter-highway at Thana Mor, the heart of Dohar Municipality.
The estimated value of the land is approximately four crore taka. Upon receiving information from local journalists, the Dohar Upazila Administration has ordered a halt to all activities on the government land.
Locals report that an influential fake currency trader named Niluar Hossain Nilu is filling the land with sand.
On-site investigation revealed that in Ward No. 6 of the municipality, near Thana Mor area adjacent to the regional highway, an attempt is indeed being made to occupy this fallow government land located in Joypara Mouza under RS Khatian No.—542, RS Dag—2259.
According to RS records, the land belonged to Kafiram Roy, Ramkrishna Roy, and Harekrishna Roy, whose current ownership stands with the Government of Bangladesh. The land is being filled with sand day and night using over a hundred trucks, allegedly by a powerful group.
A shopkeeper, requesting anonymity, said the land had been under the possession of Sajjad Hossain Suruj, former Chhatra League leader and convenor of the Municipal Awami League, for over ten years. After the fall of the fascist government, it is now being filled by influential fake currency trader Niluar Hossain Nilu. The land's estimated value is around four crore taka, and the category of the land is homestead (viti).
When contacted via mobile, Niluar Hossain Nilu claimed that he owns land on both sides of the government plot through purchase and also claimed to have taken the government land on lease. When asked why sand is being dumped on government land, he reiterated his lease claim. When requested to show documents, he said he was busy in Dhaka for important work and disconnected the call.
Regarding the matter, Dohar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tasfiq Sibgat Ullah said, upon receiving complaints of illegal occupation of government land, they promptly stopped the work and asked the alleged occupier to present valid documents. No one has contacted the administration yet. He further added that if anyone is found attempting to illegally occupy government land, legal action will be taken against them.
