Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury emphasized that visual artists bear a crucial responsibility in preserving the history and spirit of the July Mass Uprising for future generations.
He made the observations while inaugurating a day-long art camp titled "Memory Against Oblivion" (Bismritir Biruddhe Smriti) on the premises of the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum in Dhaka on Monday.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Policy and Strategy (Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Ministry of Cultural Affairs) Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman attended the event as a special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the Cultural Affairs Minister highlighted the Bengali nation's legacy of struggle, from the 1969 Mass Upsurge and the Great War of Liberation to every democratic movement for justice and human rights. He noted that the spontaneous participation of students, workers, and citizens culminated in the fall of the fascist regime, cementing the July Mass Uprising as a pivotal chapter in Bangladesh's democratic history.
Paying rich tribute to the martyrs and those injured during the movement, the minister visited the exhibition area and interacted with the participating painters.
Creative visual artists from across the country participated in the day-long camp, portraying through their artwork the student-people movement, acts of courage, sacrifices, and aspirations for democracy.
