Md. Riyadul Islam Yusuf, the cashier of the Pakhimara outlet branch of Al-Arafah Islami Bank, has disappeared with one crore taka of more than fifty customers in Kalapara, Patuakhali. In this incident, the aggrieved customers surrounded the bank at 11 am on Monday in Pakhimara Bazar of Nilganj Union of the upazila and protested. They also observed a hand-tied program. Riyad has taken away not only the customers but also 1 million taka from the mother account of the bank's agent Mostafizur Rahman Ayub Ali.
The victim customers complained that Riyad embezzled the money deposited without including it in the bank's online system after receiving it. Later, when agents and customers came to know about his embezzlement, he disappeared.
The bank's agent, Mostafizur Rahman Ayub Ali, said, "The matter of embezzlement has been reported to the bank authorities and various steps are being taken to return the money to the victims. He also took one million taka from my mother's account."
