Md. Masum, Tongibari (Munshiganj)

In Mamasar village of Bajrajogini Union in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila, the surrounding agricultural land and houses are under threat due to sand lifting by the illegal dredging. The locals have filed a written petition with the Deputy Commissioner demanding the removal of the dredger on Saturday afternoon.

According to the complaint, Awlad Hossain, Shyamal Mal, and Sumon Mridha have been using political influence to forcibly install dredgers and cut and sell the soil of the government property of Mamasar Dighi and its owned cropland for some time. As a result, there are threats of demolition of the homes of the people in the area and the surrounding cropland is being damaged. They demanded closure of this illegal dredger.

Joynal Abedin of Mamasar village said, "We, the villagers, have applied to the DC demanding the closure of this illegal dredger. No action has been taken so far. We demand the closure of this illegal dredger to protect our agricultural land and homes."

Abdul Hai Mal of Mamasar village said, "Our homes are at risk because of the illegal dredger being installed and cutting the soil."

Several residents of Mamasar village, including Md. Bachchu, Lakhai Sheikh, Shahid Daptari, Moktar Bepari and many others, said that due to the illegal dredger cutting the soil in our village, the houses and crops around our village are under threat. Many people's buildings have cracked, and the walls of many houses have cracked. Dredgers are running here before, we have applied to the District Administrator demanding the closure of this dredger. Our local people have only one demand: to close this dredger and protect the crops and homes in the area.

Accused Shyamal said that soil is being removed from a privately owned land by installing a dredger on a government road. When asked about the permission to remove soil with a dredger, he could not give a good answer.

Bajrajogini Union Land Assistant Officer Abdul Hannan said that after being informed about the matter, they have been asked to stop the work. If they do not stop, action will be taken on the spot.

Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Fatema Tul Jannat said give the address and I will take necessary action.
