In order to ensure the safety of the coastal population in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district, the Logic Youth Group, Morelganj, organized a crucial advocacy program demanding the construction of sustainable embankments with the local government authorities.

This program, held on Monday at 2 pm at the Morelganj BRDB Hallroom, was part of the "Building Agency of Youth in Climate Action" project, supported by the British Council and ActionAid Bangladesh.

Speakers at the event mentioned that due to climate change, coastal areas are increasingly facing disasters. Weak embankments are causing significant damage to the lives and properties of the local people, which could be dangerous for their long-term survival. Therefore, they emphasized the importance of long-term planning for the construction of environmentally friendly, effective, and sustainable embankments.

The event was graced by the presence of the chief guest, 43rd BCS officer Ivana Bila Ritu, Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Prabir Kumar Sarker, BRDB Officer, former Director of Human Welfare Center MA Jalil, President of Morelganj Upazila Press Club HM Shahidul Islam, UP member Mohammad Nurul Islam Khan, Youth Net Global, Morelganj Upazila Youth Mobilizer Mehrab Alam opi, Logic Youth Group Bagerhat District Team Leader Md. Nazmul, representatives of environmental organizations, local elected representatives, youth leaders, and social workers. They noted that climate-resilient development is possible with the active participation of the youth and support from policymakers.

The organizers mentioned that this initiative will continue in the future, and discussions with local administration and policymakers will be held consistently to ensure the safety of coastal populations.

Through this advocacy program, the local youth, elected representatives, and experts committed to sustainable embankment construction and climate-resilient development through coordinated efforts. They also announced plans to submit memorandums to relevant departments demanding the construction of sustainable embankments.

It is hoped that this initiative will play a significant role in ensuring a sustainable future for the coastal population.
