Food adulteration is not merely  a matter of consumer dissatisfaction. It is pressing public health crisis in Bangladesh, where it couses widespread sickness, finicalial  hardship, and long-term damage to public trust in food  safety.

As a every day occurrence, food adulteration is a silent but dengaerous  affiliation, effecting  millions each year. 
The alarming spread of adulterated food products in Kishoreganj  has created a threat to public health. The use of adulterated ingredients in bakery products and desserts has now become a normal occurrence. Food is also being served in unhygienic environments in hotels and restaurants, ignoring hygiene rules. What is more worrying is that food is being prepared by mixing various types of harmful colors and chemicals to increase attractiveness, which is directly putting the lives of consumers at risk. Such a picture has emerged in a recent campaign by Bangladesh  Food Safety  Authority(BFSA),DNCRP. 

Investigations have revealed that adulteration is rampant in bakeries and sweet shops in different parts of the district.  Low-quality ingredients including rotten eggs are being used in milk, ghee, flour and sweets, along with harmful chemicals. Dangerous colors are being used to increase the attractiveness of sweets - which, officials participating in the campaign believe, can be seriously harmful to the liver and kidneys in the long run.

They say that not only bakeries or confectioneries, but also the condition of hotels and restaurants in the city is worrying. Unhealthy kitchen environment, free movement of cockroaches in food, rat nests in food preparation areas, raw and cooked food being kept in the refrigerator together.

In most cases, various harmful materials including industrial salt, stale oil and expired chemicals, paints are being used. Again, moldy or stale food is being reheated and given to consumers. Consumers are unknowingly consuming these foods - which is gradually becoming the cause of various diseases in the body. Adulterated chips factories have been set up in the alleys of the city. Which are spreading in the market and harming everyone from children to the elderly.

The  Pure Food Court of Kishoreganj, in a drives hotel -restrurents, bakaries,sweet shops, flower mills and others food related businesses  fined, sealed, jail for  food adulteration, unhygienic  condition. Despite the fact that numerous such irregularities were detected in multiple raids by DNCRP , BFSA and Administration,  no significant change is coming. By imposing fines during the raids, traders are going back to the old rules.

 Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) complain that the horror of adulterated food is increasing day by day due to the lack of strict implementation of the law and regular monitoring.
Assistant  Director (AD of DNCRP, Shafiqul Islam said, "The condition of various hotels and restaurants is terrible. Our operations are going on regularly. The guilty are being brought to justice. We are working to protect the interests of consumers with our limited manpower. However, if the businessmen are not responsible, nothing can change."Adulterated food and unhealthy food increase the risk of various physical problems including cancer, kidney and liver diseases in the long run.

Civil Surgeon( CS) of Kishoreganj, dr.Ovijeet Sarmah said,  the way our food is being adulterated is really a matter of concern. It would be better if the relevant organizations including consumer rights take effective initiatives.

CAB, Kishoreganj district President  Alam Sarowar Tito   said, people are now prioritizing profit. They are forgetting that they have to do service work behind the scenes of business.

Adulteration or serving substandard food in the food business has become a tradition. Campaigns have not been conducted in hotels and restaurants for a long time. That is why such a situation has arisen.

There is no coordination between government departments. If they work in coordination, the problem will be solved, CAB added .
