5 AL leaders, activists, including principal arrested in Jhalakathi

Police have detained four Awami League leaders and a Chhatra League leader in Nalchitty, Jhalakathi, to prevent possible sabotage activities centered around August 15.
They were arrested in a raid conducted in different areas of the upazila on Friday (August 14) afternoon. Nalchiti Police Station OC Touhiduzzaman Sohag confirmed the matter.
The arrested persons are: Nalchiti Upazila Awami League Publicity Secretary and Nalchiti Girls School and College Principal Md. Jalilur Rahman Akand, Nalchiti Municipality Chhatra League Organizing Secretary Md. Risadul Islam Tanvir, Kulkathi Union Awami League General Secretary Md. Shamsul Alam Mallick, Dapadpia Union Ward No. 2 Awami League General Secretary Abdul Malek and Subidpur Union Krishak League General Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam.
Police said that a special operation is being conducted across the upazila to maintain law and order on the occasion of August 15 and to prevent any possible sabotage activities. They were detained as part of this.
Nalchiti Police Station OC Touhiduzzaman Sohag said that security arrangements have been strengthened especially on August 15.
