Mahbub Piyal, Faridpur
The 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated under the auspices of the Faridpur Sahitya Parishad.
On this occasion, an exhibition showcasing the poet’s life and works was organized on Saturday afternoon at the Faridpur District Council Hall. The chief guest was the eminent educator and fiction writer Professor Dr. Syed Monjurul Islam.
In his speech, the chief guest stated that Nazrul is essential in today’s society because he spoke of universal humanity. He highlighted the absence of global conscience, pointing to the ongoing inhumanity in Gaza, where people are being killed without reason. Instead of speaking out against this, Middle Eastern countries are preoccupied with expanding trade and purchasing weapons and modern armaments. The world is passing through a period of grave uncertainty, with fears of the devastating impact of nuclear bombs. He emphasized that Nazrul is needed now because he spoke of both national and international humanity.
The event was presided over by Professor Altaf Hossain, President of Faridpur Sahitya Parishad. Other speakers included the founding president and educator Professor M.A. Samad, General Secretary of Faridpur Sahitya Parishad Mofiz Imam, Vice-Principal of Government Sarada Sundari Women’s College Professor Talukdar Anisul Islam, Professor Debasish Biswas from the English Department of Times University, Vice-President of Rajbari Sahitya Parishad Aziza Khanam, poet Shamim Ara Begum, and Joint General Secretary of Faridpur Sahitya Parishad Mridha Rezaul Karim, among others.
The event featured recitations of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s poems and performances of his songs accompanied by musical instruments, which captivated the audience.
