10th anniv of DU’s Department of Printing and Publication Studies celebrated

The 10th anniversary celebration of the Department of Printing and Publication Studies at the University of Dhaka was held on Monday at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium. Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, attended the event as the chief guest.
The event was presided over by the department chairperson, Dr. Shilpi Begum. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Taiyebur Rahman, were present as special guests.
In celebration of the department’s decade-long journey, the inaugural lecture of the anniversary lecture series was delivered by Professor Emeritus Dr. A. F. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury of the English Department, titled “The State of Publishing.” The founding chairperson of the department, Professor Dr. Sudhangshu Shekhar Roy, delivered the welcome speech.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized the importance of printing and publication as vital elements of education and research. He expressed the university's intent to make its press more effective in advancing publishing initiatives. Citing global examples, he stated that university presses of leading institutions play a significant role in society through scholarly publications. He encouraged faculty and students to work in coordination with the University Press.
During the event, part-time faculty member Dr. Bimal Guha was honoured. The second segment of the program featured a vibrant cultural performance by students of the department.
