1000- bed international standard hospital to be built in Gangachara Upazila with Chinese fund
Md. Al Mumin, Gangachara (Rangpur)
A plan has been taken to build a 1,000-bed international standard hospital at Gangachara Upazila in Rangpur with Chinese funding.
If this project is implemented in the char area on the banks of the Teesta River, the entire people of North Bengal will benefit even if it is set up directly in Gangachara. A high-level government delegation has visited the potential site.
On Tuesday (April 15), the proposed site in the Char Kalagachi area of Mohipur Mouza of Laxmitari Union of Gangachara was visited by World Bank Lead Economist Shahidur Rahman Khandaker, former Senior Transport Economist Farhad Ahmed, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Rabiul Faisal, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmud Hasan Mridha, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jannatul Ferdous Urmi, UP Chairman Abdullah Al Hadi and other local administrative officials and public representatives.
Hanif Khan Sajeeb, a member of the People's Rights Council, said, "Potential sites for the project are being identified through inspections in the Teesta char area. If an international standard hospital is built here, the people of the entire northern region will benefit."
He also said, "This hospital will not only be helpful for the local people but will also help improve the quality of health services in the entire country. In particular, the rural people of the northern region of the country will easily get improved medical services. The hospital will also create opportunities for the establishment of a medical college or nursing institute in the future."
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jannatul Ferdous Urmi said, "We have initially considered 20 acres of private land as suitable for building a hospital. A Chinese expert delegation will come here soon and they will take the final decision. The place is very suitable to ensure high-quality healthcare."
Gangachara UNO Mahmud Hasan Mridha said, the initiative to build a 1,000-bed international standard hospital on the banks of the Teesta River in Gangachara is very significant for the region. Although the proposed site is a char area, the communication system is good and suitable for construction. If this hospital is implemented, the people of the northern region will get improved healthcare and employment opportunities will be created at the local level.
Imran Ahmed, Rangpur District Convener of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’, said, “When India has stopped medical visas, there is no alternative to developing world-class medical services in our own country. This hospital will bring a revolutionary change in the health system of the northern region.”
The proposed hospital site is adjacent to the Teesta Bridge, which will provide easy connectivity to Rangpur city and surrounding districts. There is about 29 acres of vacant land here, which is suitable for the construction of the main building of the hospital, helipad, training center, housing and research laboratories. The green and peaceful environment will help in the speedy recovery of patients. Despite being a char area, the communication system is very good, so the possibility of damage in natural disasters is low.
In addition, the hospital will create massive employment opportunities from the construction period to the commissioning. The hospital will further strengthen diplomatic relations as a visible example of the improvement of Bangladesh's healthcare sector and China-Bangladesh relations.
