Speaking as the chief guest at the award ceremony of the fishermen's boat race held in Jhalakathi on the occasion of National Fisheries Week, the Deputy Commissioner  Ashrafur Rahman said, the initiative to organize this competition was taken keeping in mind the entertainment of the fishermen, which has ultimately been successful.
 
 He congratulated the winners and thanked all the participants, saying that winning or losing is not a big deal, rather participation is important. He said that boat race is a part of the existing tradition of Bengal, it is our responsibility to cherish it. He thanked the people of Jhalakathi for their cooperation by participating spontaneously and urged everyone to support such events in the future as well.
 
The fishermen's boat race started from Kistakathi Kheaghat on the Sugandha River in Jhalokati on Sunday  afternoon and ended at the Municipal Mini Park. A total of 11 fishermen's boats participated in the competition, with 5 fishermen in each boat. In this competitive competition, Sobahan Hawlader's team won the first place. Mahbub Sikder's team came second and Hafizul Islam's team came third. After that, cash and other prizes were distributed among the winners and all the participants.
 
District Fisheries Officer Md. Rabiul Islam presided over the function while Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman was the chief guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Kawsar Hossain, Kathalia Upazila Executive Officer and Rajapur Upazila Executive Officer (Additional Duty) Zahirul Islam were present as special guests.
