Torch procession in Munshiganj protesting brutal murder

Munshiganj (South) Correspondent

In protest of the brutal killing of a scrap trader who was bludgeoned to death with a stone in the Mitford area of Dhaka, the Munshiganj district unit of the National Citizens Party (NCP) organized a torch procession and protest rally.

The torch procession began at 9:20 PM on Friday night and continued peacefully until 10:10 PM. It started from the central Shaheed Minar of the district and concluded at the Super Market premises. The procession was led by Gazi Abdul Wahid, convenor of the NCP Munshiganj Sadar Thana unit.

Among others present were Farzana Akter, joint coordinator of NCP Munshiganj district; Advocate Maruf Hasan Monty; Ahsan Akash, general secretary of the Ramphal College Chhatralig unit; and Raihan Rafi, a student of Haraganga College.

During the protest rally, students said, “Businessman Sohag was killed by Jubo Dal activists with stones after he refused to pay extortion money. After the murder, a barbaric dance was performed on his corpse — an act unthinkable in a civilized society. We demand exemplary punishment for these extortionist killers.”

They added, “In the past 10 months, approximately 100 people have been murdered across the country. This cannot be allowed to continue. All killings must be investigated impartially, and the perpetrators brought to justice.”

The procession ended without any untoward incidents. Law enforcement agencies remained on high alert throughout the event.
