Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj
To support disaster-prone and marginalized communities in leading a dignified, healthy, and safe life amidst the challenges of climate change, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has distributed dignity kits to 2,800 low-income families in Narayanganj City Corporation under its Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) project.
Each kit contains sanitary napkins, soap, a bucket with lid, a torch, undergarments, and other hygiene items essential for ensuring women's health protection, cleanliness, and personal safety. The kits aim to reduce women's health risks and raise awareness on menstrual hygiene, thereby contributing to a healthier environment in the community.
On Tuesday morning, the distribution event took place at the council office grounds in Ward No. 6 of Narayanganj City Corporation, with Major General (Retd.) Professor Dr. Md. Azizul Islam, Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, attending as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, he said, "As one of the country’s largest humanitarian organizations, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has long been working with disaster- and climate-vulnerable communities. Today's dignity kit distribution is a real example of that ongoing support. These kits are not just materials—they reflect our commitment to a life of dignity, especially for women, focusing on their health, safety, and self-respect."
The event was presided over by Imam Zafar Sikder, Director of the DCRM Division of BDRCS. Among the special guests were Muhammad Aminul Islam, Treasurer of BDRCS; Dr. Mahmuda Alam Mitu, Honorable Member of the Governing Board; Dr. Kabir Md. Ashraf Alam, Secretary General of BDRCS; and Md. Alomgir Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj. The initiative is supported financially and technically by the British Red Cross. The distribution program will continue until April 17.
