Newborn’s body found in Ibn Sina Hospital toilet in Jashore

The body of a newborn was recovered from a toilet at private Ibn Sina Hospital in Jashore on Thursday night.

According to hospital authorities, the infant was found in a toilet located inside Room 101, designated as a female sample collection room and used exclusively by women patients.Al Amin Hossain, a cleaner working the night shift, spotted the body while performing routine cleaning duties around 11pm.

He noticed a polythene-wrapped bundle inside a waste bin and found the newborn’s body, with the hospital administration being informed immediately.

Senior Assistant Manager Asif Nawaz said he and other officials rushed to Room 101 upon receiving the report and retrieved the infant and took it to the emergency department, where physicians declared it dead.

Being informed, a team from Kotwali model police station went to the spot and took custody of the body.

Abul Hasnat Khan, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said an investigation was underway and CCTV footage was being scrutinised to identify those involved.

Legal action will be taken following the post-mortem report, he added.
